Victim of Love is magnificent in $75,000 Island Fashion Stakes
Victim of Love overcame a horrible start in last place and roared to a one and three-quarter length win in the $75,000 Island Fashion Stakes at one mile for three-year-old fillies.
The poised Speightstown filly broke more than a step slow but managed to carve her way through traffic and gain a threatening position on the second turn. Under jockey Ry Eikleberry soared past the speedy D’tataway and never looked back. The budding star ran the final quarter mile in less than 25 seconds and looks like a horse with immense talent. She zipped through the distance in 1:37.07. Coming off a near 12-length maiden win on Jan. 22, Victim of Love showed an added dimension in the Island Fashion.
Trained by Henry Dominguez, Victim of Love raced as the 9-5 second favorite and earned $45,000 for the Tommy Town Thoroughbreds. The route loving specialist should be a major threat for the $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks on Sunday, March 24. She sold for $160,000 in the Keeneland September Sales of 2017.
Backflash finished a determined second but was no threat to the winner. The runner-up is trained by Steve Asmussen. K P Slickem closed late to get third place for trainer Weston Martin. She was second in the $65,000 Borderplex Stakes. D’tataway finished a weary sixth.
