Anothertwistafate Works at Sunland Park – Hopes for Kentucky Derby
Anothertwistafate, second-place finisher in the Sunland Derby, has remained at Sunland Park post race and performed a private workout at the racetrack on April 4, 2019. Currently, Anothertwistafate is ranked 16th on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard with 30 points. The three year old colt will depart Sunland on April 5th and head to Keeneland. He may possibly run the Lexington on April 13th if additional points are needed to stay on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard.
In one of the closest Sunland Derby finishes ever, Anothertwistafate lost by only a nose to first place finisher Cutting Humor. His strong closing sprint down the stretch in the 1 1/8 mile Sunland Derby leads many racing experts to believe he would perform even better in the longer 1 1/4 mile Kentucky Derby. Anothertwistafate is considered a “dark horse” contender in the Kentucky Derby field and has an excellent chance of upsetting the pre-race favorites at Churchill Downs.
Two other horses from the most recent Sunland Derby are also listed on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard, Cutting Humor currently sits at number 7 and Mucho Gusto anchors the list at number 20. Having two Sunland Derby horses run in the Kentucky Derby is uncommon and has not occurred since 2009 when 50-1 longshot Mine That Bird shocked the world by winning “The Run for the Roses.”
Live racing resumes Friday at 12:50 p.m. The current season continues through Sunday, May 5.
